CHOITHRAMIANS BID ADIEU TO CLASS XII STUDENTS

A fond farewell was accorded to class XII students of Choithram School, Manik Bagh on January 26, 2012 in the indoor sports complex. The proud parents of class XII students who played a pivotal role in the ebullient journey of schooling years of their wards were the guests of honour on this momentous occasion. Smartly dressed young boys and girls of class XII along with their parents were welcomed with traditional tilak by their juniors, class XI students. Principal, Mr. Rajesh Awasthi welcomed the parents and urged the students to face the outside world with confidence and grit. The cultural programme comprising of reverberating, energizing dance performances, mellifluous song recitals, fun-filled mime presentation, enrapturing skit and ad mad show enactments showcased the different phases of a student’s school life.

School Head Boy Aniket Joshi and School Head Girl Shailja Shukla enumerated their wonderful experiences of school life as well as how the values imbibed by students in their schooling years enable to shape their character . Dr. Archana Baser, a gynecologist and a parent spoke about the role played by the school in shaping the personality of the child. Mementoes epitomizing the unbreakable bond of class XII students with the school were presented along with apt titles. Mr. & Miss Choithram titles were bagged by Aniket Joshi and Noshin Ali respectively while Anirudh Verma and Shefali Porwal received the title of Mr. and Miss Elegant respectively. After enjoying a sumptuous lunch the parents and students departed with heavy hearts.

 

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATIONS AT CHOITHRAM SCHOOL

Choithram School, Manik Bagh celebrated Christmas with gusto and vigour on December 24, 2011. The programme commenced with a short skit titled ‘Birth of Jesus’ by class VIII students.  To build up the festive spirit of Christmas, carols and song were sung by students.  Teachers dressed up as Santa Clauses distributed sweets to the junior children and were the main attraction for everyone. Children from Montessori to class V also dressed up as Santa Clauses and spread the message of peace and harmony amongst all. The mellifluous celebrations culminated with Class I to V children rejuvenating by dancing to the beats of music.

ENGLISH ELOCUTION EVENT

The cold morning of December 23, 2011 was witness to English Elocution Event organized at Choithram School, Manik Bagh. The competition was an initiative of the school’s Interact Club, a part of Rotary Club of Indore Uptown. Students of classes VI to VIII spoke vociferously about ‘Polio Eradication Campaign and Rotary’s Role’, appreciating the role played by Rotary volunteers around the globe in fighting against this deadly disease. While awareness was created about this disease which cripples children at an early age, the speakers urged the youth of today to channelize the power they possess and assist in curbing this tenacious disease. After 20 years of committed effort, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating polio but still a strong push is required to root it out once for all.

ANISHKA WINS LAURELS IN SKATING CHAMPIONSHIP

Anishka Raje Silawat of class VIII bagged bronze medal in rink race II in U-14 years category in the recently concluded CBSE West Zone Skating Championship held Delhi. She also won a gold medal at the state level roller skating championship at Shivpuri and has been selected for the national level championship to be held in last week of December.

DIWALI CELEBRATED WITH GAIETY AND FERVOUR

Diwali, ‘the festival of lights’ was celebrated with gaiety and fervour in Choithram School, Manik Bagh, Indore on October 22, 2011. The programme commenced with a melodious song sung by the school choir. The uniqueness of this festival is its harmony of five varied philosophies, with each day devoted to a special thought or ideal. A skit by class VIII students highlighted the importance of these five days, namely, Dhanteras, Choti Diwali, Lakshmi Puja, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dhuj. As Diwali cards help to strengthen and rejuvenate the bond of love between people, a card making event was organized for students of classes III to XI wherein they prepared cards from waste material. Rangoli event organized for classes VI to X brought creativity of the students to the fore and witnessed participation of nearly 110 young artists. Principal Mr. Rajesh Awasthi wished everybody a joyful and environment friendly Diwali.

CHOITHRAMIANS EXCEL IN NATIONAL LEVEL GREEN-I CONTEST

Choithram School, Manik Bagh, Indore was adjudged third in The Green-I Contest for school children, a joint national level initiative of Carrier India and the Confederation of Indian Industry’s Young Indians (Yi). The contest aims to create awareness and encourage students to think about environmental sustainability. A total of 120 schools competed in this national level contest in round one wherein Choithram School was one of the five schools all over the country selected for the final round. The students presented their ideas before a panel of jury consisting of Gaurang Pandya, Managing Director, Carrier India, Dr. Kath Williams, Sustainability Expert, Green Building, USA and Karan Grover, an eminent architect. Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Hon’ble Union Minister for New And Renewable Energy presented the award to the students at a glittering function in New Delhi on October 20, 2011. School Principal Mr. Rajesh Awasthi congratulated the team of 12 students and Mrs. Kshamta Ram, senior faculty Science who guided the students. The students who were a part of this endeavour were Meenal Saluja, Noshin Ali, Raghav Palriwala, Karan Khurana, Hussain Saifee, Aniket Joshi and Devika Badlani of class XII as well as Purvesh Kulkarni, Vaibhav Keswani, Janhavi Manjrekar, Ojas Dharma and Vallaki Patni of class XI.

 

INSTALLATION OF INTERACT CLUB OF CHOITHRAM SCHOOL, MANIK BAGH

In keeping with the spirit of ‘fellowship and friendship’, Choithram School, Manik Bagh organized installation ceremony of the school’s Interact Club, as a part of Rotary Club of Indore Uptown recently. The ceremony commenced with the school choir rendering the school song and lighting of lamp by the revered Rotarians. President Rotarian Mr. Jayesh Jha, Honorary Secretary Rotarian Mr. Rajeev Shah, Chief Guest and Installation Officer District Governor Rotarian Mr. Atul Gargav, Guest of Honour, Principal of Prestige Public School, Mr. Prakash Choudhary and other distinguished members of Rotary Club of Indore Uptown graced the occasion with their benign presence.
Madhav Tiwari of class XII was formally enrolled in as the President of the Club and   Devika Badlani of class XII as the Secretary. The new team comprising Vice President, President Elect, Joint Secretary, Director of Vocational Services, Director Club Services, Director International Services, Editor Bulletin, Sergeant At Arms, Director Community Services and Director Youth was sworn in.

CHOITHRAM HOSTS INTER SCHOOL SWIMMING MEET

To hone the swimming potential of students, Choithram School, Manik Bagh organized Inter School Swimming Meet under the aegis of Indore Sahodaya Schools Complex for under 14 years girls category on Monday, October 17, 2011 at its premises. Nine prestigious schools of the city participated in the Meet, namely, Advanced Academy,New Digambar Public School, Pragya Girls School, Shishukunj International, The Vidhyanjali International, Vidyasagar School, Shri Cloth Market Vaishnav Bal Mandir, Vidya Bhavan Public School and host school, Choithram School, Manik Bagh. The six events in which the swimmers showcased their talent were 50 m Free Style, 25 m Back Stroke, 25 m
Breast Stroke, 25 m Butterfly Stroke, 4x25 M Free Style Relay and 100 M Individual Medley. Mr. Devashish Nilosey, a renowned cricketer was the chief guest at the function. The programme commenced with mellifluous melody of ‘Khel Khiladi’ song by the school choir followed by Mr. Nilosey’s thought provoking words. After the chief guest declared the Meet open, Isha Joshi, School Prefect administered the oath to the participants urging them to compete with true sportsman spirit. Certificates and medals to the winners of various events were presented by Mr. Nilosey. Mehak Anand and Anshu Baser of class XII anchored the programme with poise and sophistication while School Cultural Prefect Saumya Sharma proposed the vote of thanks.

CHOITHRAMIANS PAY HOMAGE TO MAHATMA GANDHI AND LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI

Choithramians paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on the occasion of their birth anniversary on October 2. The programme commenced with Mrs. Sumita Sarkar, Senior Mistress and Mrs. Savithry Babuji, faculty Mathematics Department garlanding the portraits of Gandhiji and Shastriji respectively. Chaitali Tiwari of class IX elucidated the relevance of Gandhian values in today’s era which was followed by sonorous bhajan recital by Pulkit Jain, Palak Jain and Sonali Rana. Contributions of Shastriji were enunciated by Amisha Gupta of class VI. Yagya Arora of class IX enlightened the audience about certain little known facts of Gandhiji. Detailing the significance of ‘shramadana’ which was of utmost importance to Gandhiji, Mrs. Jaya Roy, faculty Hindi Department exhorted the students to take up the ‘Cleanliness Drive’ planned in the school that day. Thereafter 'Cleanliness Drive' of the school campus was undertaken by students of class VI to XI wherein they cleaned their classrooms and corridors of the school thereby making Gandhi Jayanti celebration a meaningful affair.

MANALI BORGAONKAR AND PALASH MOTWANI WIN LAURELS IN DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP

In the state level championship organized by MP Swimming Association at Jabalpur, Manali Borgaonkar, a student of class VII of Choithram School, Manik Bagh won gold in 1 mt spring board diving, silver in 3 mt spring board diving and 5 mt spring board diving while Palash Motwani, a student of class VI won gold in 3 mt diving and silver in 1 mt diving. Manali also bagged silver medals in 3 mts spring board diving event in National Aquatic Championship organized by All India Swimming & Diving Federation as well as National Aquatic Championship organized by Otter Club. 

TEACHERS’ DAY CELEBRATED WITH ALACRITY

Choithramians made September 5 a very memorable day for all the staff members of the school. The day commenced with the assembly conducted solely by the students. Aniket Joshi, School Head Boy was the student Principal while class XII students were the student teachers for the day. Student teachers dressed in formal attire, looking nervous yet enthusiastic taught the first two periods allotted to them in classes VI to XII.  They realized the responsibility borne by the teachers, an arduous task shouldered by them diligently every day.  The student teachers were judged by a panel of teachers of various departments. Prateek Juneja, Deepak Shivani, Anshita Chauhan and Sonakshi Puntambekar were adjudged the four best teachers and felicitated in the assembly the next day.

While the student teachers taught the students, the teachers were addressed by the Principal who exhorted them to consider their job as a profession and bring about a behavioural change in the students.

The teachers were welcomed with a rose and a card at the door step of the indoor sports complex and escorted to their places by class XII students. The two hour cultural programme witnessed participation of students of classes VI to XII, bringing forth their immense talent. The exhilarating and electrifying programme replete with ebullience comprised of a medley of songs, solo classical dance recitals, western dance presentations, poetry recitation, skit enactment and mime show. Teachers appreciated the apt titles that were bestowed upon them. The programme commenced with a prayer thanking all the teachers for nurturing the young minds and being the ‘wind beneath their wings’. The day ended with a sumptuous lunch enjoyed by both the teachers and the students.

 

RAGHVENDRA MAHASHABDE AND VINAMR JAIN EXCEL IN CBSE SCIENCE EXHIBITION

Raghvendra Mahashabde and Vinamr Jain of class X brought laurels to the school for their project ‘Energy Solutions by Artificial Leaves’ at Regional Level CBSE Science Exhibition organized at Jabalpur on August 23 and 24, 2011.  The duo competed with 55 schools of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh wherein 110 projects on various scientific themes were displayed.  Their project demonstrated how hydrogen can be used as a fuel in future which has high calorific value with very low cost. They projected this by showing an artificial leaf electrolyzing water into hydrogen and oxygen. They will now represent the school at the National Level CBSE Exhibition at Delhi.

 

LOVE FOR MOTHERLAND EXEMPLIFIED IN INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Embellished, exuberant and enthusiastic manifestation of love and reverence for the motherland was visualized during the 65th Independence Day celebration on August 15, 2011 in the school indoor sports complex. The programme commenced with the flag-hoisting by School Principal Mr. Rajesh Awasthi. Mellifluous rendition of songs by the junior school choir and senior school choir surged the spirit of patriotism in the hearts of everyone. Guest Prefect Meenal Saluja’s awe-inspiring speech themed on ‘India Through My Eyes’ detailed India as a a semblance and how 5000 years had made this semblance strong and beautiful. Folk and fusion dance presentation by students of classes IV and V surcharged the atmosphere with patriotic fervour. Mrs. Mamta Panchal, faculty Hindi Department elucidated the achievements of Indians during the post independence era encompassing all domains.  The programme concluded with School Principal Mr. Rajesh Awasthi highlighting the immensely vast cultural legacy that has been passed on to us and urging us to introspect ourselves so that that we could be the best Indian possible.

MEENAL SALUJA WINS ACCOLADES IN NATIONAL LEVEL INTER PUBLIC SCHOOL ENGLISH  ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION 09.08.11

Meenal Saluja of class XII bagged the second position in O. P. Jindal Inter Public School English Essay Writing Competition organized at the national level by Vidya Devi Jindal School, Hisar recently. Meenal’s essay ‘India – Through My Eyes’ competed with essays written by students of 31 schools across the country. Glorifying India, she mentioned that India through her eyes is a hallowed country that becomes a family when you love it, the ultimate achiever when you work for it, a spectacle when you try to feel it and a sensation when you discover it. Though terrorism and corruption hit it hard, it never loses its ‘never say die’ spirit. It possesses the pizzazz of the youth, perspicacity of the elders and candour of kids.

KARGIL VIJAY DIWAS – REMINISCENCES

Students of class X B apprised everyone about the importance of 26 July which is celebrated as ‘Kargil Victory Day’ commonly known as ‘Vijay Diwas’ through a group discussion. It was on this day in the year 1999 that the Kargil War, an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place between May and July 1999 in the Kargil district of Kashmir came to an end. Through their discussion the students elucidated about the sacrifice made by our soldiers. They further said, ‘At 15000 feet we are not normal, our lungs scream for oxygen, blood vessels cry for oxygen and still our soldiers fought there bravely, just to protect our Motherland.’ Students who portrayed the various roles were:

CELEBRATION OF GURU PURNIMA

Guru Purnima was celebrated with gaiety and ardour in the school. Meenal Saluja, Guest Prefect briefed the audience about the role of guru; viz; a person who dispels darkness or enlightens and guides an individual to learn something. The school choir rendered a prayer exemplifying the importance of guru in one’s life. In our scriptures there is a story which highlights the importance of a mentor in our life. Without a mentor attaining salvation is not only difficult but next to impossible because ego is the main hurdle. Divine Mentor through His unconditional love and chidings disciplines the spiritual aspirant and helps him to forgo his ego. The same was exemplified by the students of class IX in their skit portraying Narad Muni’s search for guru at the behest of Lord Vishnu. The skit concluded with the message, ‘A teacher is like a candle – it consumes itself to light the way for others.’

 

MESMERIZING PERFORMANCE - ENGLISH SKIT

The pleasant morning of July 13, 2011 was witness to Inter House English Skit event organized at our school. Students of the Junior category (classes VI to VIII) showcased  ‘Unity is strength’ portraying the adage ‘United we stand, divided we fall’. Unity has indeed become paramount with the boundaries diffusing in this ever-shrinking world. Only when we unite in spirit, can we truly cope with the challenges we face. Participants of the Senior category (classes IX to XII) did justice to the theme ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ revealing how bad times are like dark clouds, for a turbulent life comes in everybody’s life. But the best part is how we tackle the situation, overcome the pitfalls and achieve the silver lining for a fruitful life. The mesmerizing performance of the actors left the audience spellbound.

CHOITHRAMIAN SHINES IN DIVING CHAMPIONSHIP

Manali Borgaonkar, a student of class VII of Choithram School, Manik Bagh bagged silver medal in 3 mts. Spring Board event in 28th Sub Junior National Aquatic Championship organized by Madhya Pradesh Swimming Association in  Indore recently.  She also won the team championship in the same event.

FOOTBALL MATCH – EX STUDENTS VERSUS SCHOOL TEAM

The pleasant morning of June 29, 2011 witnessed dynamic, frenzied ardour on the occasion of the football match played between Ex-Choithramians and present school team. The match kicked off with a flood of cheerful screams and cries. Ex-students jumped the school team early on, kicking home a goal in the first half.  Rest of the first half was devoid of any score, though the euphoric audience got to see some stupendous attempts at the goal post.  In high spirits, the school team retorted back scoring a goal in the second half.  The match ending with the score leveled at 1-1, passed on to penalty shoots-outs. The school team shrugged off the Ex-Choithramians with a narrow win, outscoring them in the final shoot-out, with a score of 5 - 4. Shreyash Shrivastava of the winning team slammed two goals and was affirmed the best player. Students of classes XI and XII along with staff members enjoyed the exhilarating game.

HOUSE INVESTITURE CEREMONY OF SENIOR WING

The pleasant morning of June 22, 2011 was a witness to the House Investiture Ceremony of Senior Wing students for the session 2011 – 2012.  The programme began on a consecrated note with the prayer ‘Humko Man Ki Shakti Dena’ epitomizing the new incumbents to shoulder their responsibilities to the best of their ability during the forthcoming session. The House Prefectorial Body was sworn in with 48 new incumbents receiving the badges from various Incharges of the school. Principal Mr. Rajesh Awasthi presided over the well
co-ordinated programme. The newly appointed prefects were urged to live up to the expectations of their House Incharges and perform their duties diligently with perseverance.  School Guest Prefect Meenal Saluja and School Prefect Janhavi Manjrekar anchored the show eloquently.

 

INVESTITURE CEREMONY – JUNIOR BLOCK

Prefectorial Body for the academic session 2011 - 12 was inducted in Primary Wing of Choithram School on June 21, 2011. Khushang Doshi and Karman Chawla were appointed as Head Boy and Head Girl. Principal, Mr. Rajesh Awasthi congratulated the students of the Prefectorial Body on their achievement. The Prefectorial Body was advised by Head Mistress, Mrs. Inderjeet Uppal to perform their duties with loyalty and sincerity. Montessori Incharge, Mrs. Smita Bhargava also presided over the function and presented the badges to the prefects. The ceremony was conducted by House Mistresses.

FAMILIARIZATION MEET FOR PARENTS OF NURSERY

 “The aim of education is not to transfer knowledge but to instill learning.” This view was expressed by Principal, Mr. Rajesh Awasthi in a familiarization meet organized at Choithram School, Manik Bagh for parents of Nursery class students on June 11, 2011. The objective of the meet was to familiarize parents with Montessori pattern through sensorial, EPL activities, skit, puppet show, slide show etc. Headmistress, Mrs. Inderjeet Uppal guided the parents to develop the constructive rapport between child and the school. Montessori Incharge Mrs. Smita Bhargava also presided over the function.

MATHEMATICS WORKSHOP AT CHOITHRAM SCHOOL, MANIK BAGH

A Mathematics Workshop was conducted at Choithram School, Manik Bagh on April 21, 2011 by Professor V. P. Gupta, ex-faculty of NCERT, New Delhi. The programme began on a consecrated note with lighting of the lamp by Professor V. P. Gupta and School Principal Mr. Swapan Mukherjee. Prof. V. P. Gupta enlightened the teachers with usage of multifarious teaching techniques and students’ assessment. He also mentioned about the changes in the curriculum of Mathematics since last five years.

Nearly 120 teachers from different schools of Indore and adjoining areas participated in this workshop which proved to be very beneficial to everyone present.  Prof. V. P. Gupta served NCERT for 33 years and obtained professional training in Teaching Pedagogy from Massachusetts, USA. Presently he is engaged in developing multimedia packages and data base programmes for students of various stages of school education. He has also rendered his expertise to various national level organizations like Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), UPSC, Staff Selection Commission (SSC) in designing and moderating their question papers.

The programme was conducted by Mrs. Savithry Babuji while Mr. Ashish Sharma proposed the vote of thanks.

HOUSE FELICITATION & INVESTITURE CEREMONY

Choithram School, Manik Bagh Road ventured into yet another much awaited celebration of the House Felicitation and Investiture Ceremony on March 30, 2011. The programme began on a consecrated note with  lighting of the lamp followed by the prayer ‘Showers of Blessings’. In the house felicitation ceremony for the session 2010-11, the trophy for Sports Events was bagged by Buddha House while Gandhi House won the trophy for Cultural Events as well as the Overall Winners Trophy.The School Prefectorial Body was sworn in with 34 new incumbents receiving the badges from Principal Mr. Swapan Mukherjee. The unlit candles in the hands of the School Prefects were lit by the Principal and they were presented the school mono and certificate by him.
